Frequently Asked Questions
Meadowlark Learning is a new kind of homeschool experience—one that’s simple for parents, developmentally rich for children, and grounded in research about how kids actually learn.
We create open-and-go curriculum and learning materials that blend the best of evidence-based education with the magic of play, story, and connection.
Yes. You already are. From the moment your child was born, they’ve been learning from you — how to speak, laugh, notice, and explore the world.
You don’t need a teaching degree to keep that learning going. You just need the right tools and a little structure. Meadowlark gives you both—clear, fully scripted lessons, flexible options, and guidance you can trust.
You’re your child’s first and best teacher—and we’re here to make it simple, meaningful, and doable.
Many homeschool curriculums are either too rigid or too open-ended—leaving parents overwhelmed or children disengaged. Meadowlark bridges that gap.
Our lessons are:
- Research-based, built on the Science of Reading and early childhood education principles.
- Open-and-go, with clear scripting and minimal prep for parents.
- Play-centered, filled with hands-on exploration and creative movement.
- Secular and inclusive, designed for all families. It’s learning that works—because it’s built for how children truly grow and how parents actually live.
Yes. Meadowlark Learning is 100% secular and inclusive. You’ll never find religious instruction or ideology in our materials—just sound academics, real-world relevance, and a genuine respect for all families. Our focus is on helping children think critically, explore curiously, and develop a lifelong love of learning
No. Meadowlark Learning is a secular company and curriculum. We don’t promote or teach any particular religion or belief system.
Our focus is on providing inclusive, research-based education that welcomes all families.
In the future, we intend to create a course that explores world cultures and religions, and those lessons will approach the topic from an academic and cultural perspective—helping children understand the diversity of human beliefs, history, and traditions without advocating any one faith.
We believe every child deserves to see a world that welcomes them. Our materials reflect diverse families, perspectives, and experiences in natural, authentic ways. We’re committed to designing curriculum that’s accessible and affirming for all learners, while avoiding bias or stereotypes. It’s not about being “political”—it’s about being accurate, human, and kind.
At Meadowlark Learning, learning begins with curiosity. We follow what research and experience both confirm: young children learn best through play, connection, and hands-on discovery. Our lessons invite movement, conversation, storytelling, and exploration—all while laying strong foundations for reading, math, and thinking skills. We see education as a partnership between parent and child, filled with warmth, rhythm, and wonder.
Yes—our curriculum is informed by the Science of Reading, Orton–Gillingham principles, and early childhood development research. That means skills are introduced in a clear, sequential, multi-sensory way, helping children connect sounds, letters, movement, and meaning. We pair that structured foundation with imaginative play, storytelling, and real-world connections to make learning memorable and meaningful.
While we don’t follow a single set of state or Common Core standards, Meadowlark’s curriculum aligns with widely accepted early learning benchmarks in literacy, numeracy, and social-emotional development. Our goal is to help children build strong, flexible foundations that prepare them for lifelong learning—not just to check boxes, but to cultivate curiosity, focus, and confidence.
Meadowlark Learning is designed primarily as a hands-on, print-based experience because we believe learning at home works best when children and parents interact together—not just at a screen. That said, we do offer digital PDF downloads for families who prefer to print at home or use a tablet for flexibility. But even then, the lessons focus on movement, models, stories, materials you touch, and conversations you have—not passive screen time.
Research shows that young children learn strongest when they explore, move, talk, and reflect—not just watch. Screens often introduce passive learning or distractions, whereas the best early education happens through meaningful interaction.Because we believe you’re your child’s best teacher, we purposely build lessons that bring you into the experience: you observe, guide, ask questions, play, and connect. That kind of parent-child presence matters more than technology.
Extensive studies show that children whose parents are actively involved in their learning demonstrate stronger reading, language and thinking skills.

At Meadowlark, every lesson is designed with both parent and child in mind: you’ll read aloud, ask questions, explore together, and use simple materials at home. The goal isn’t to replace you—it’s to empower you. Together, you and your child build curiosity, confidence and a lifelong love of learning.
Meadowlark Learning was founded by Maggie Enger—a writer, curriculum designer, and homeschool mom with over a decade of experience in early education and curriculum development. After years of working in homeschool publishing and leading creative teams, Maggie wanted to create something new: a fully secular, research-based, open-and-go curriculum that brings simplicity and delight back to learning at home. Today, she leads Meadowlark’s small but mighty team of educators and designers who share that same vision.
The idea for Meadowlark grew out of both experience and conviction. After years in the homeschool world, Maggie saw too many families exhausted by programs that were either overwhelming or lacked academic grounding. She wanted to create curriculum that was academically strong but still felt alive, connected, and full of meaning. So she began building Meadowlark—combining educational research, hands-on learning, and a deep respect for children’s natural curiosity.
Yes. Before launching Meadowlark Learning, Maggie spent many years in homeschool curriculum development, including leadership roles with one of the most widely used programs in the country. That experience gave her valuable insight into what works for families—and what they truly need. Meadowlark grew out of that understanding, offering a new path forward: one that’s secular, evidence-based, and designed for real life. Several of Meadowlark's other team members have also created curriculum in the past.
Right now, we offer Meadowlark Learning Preschool — a full-year, open-and-go program with 90 gentle lessons that nurture curiosity, connection, and foundational pre-literacy and numeracy skills.Preschool will be followed by Kindergarten, then 1st Grade, 2nd Grade, and so on.
Meadowlark Learning will grow steadily, level-by-level. Our Kindergarten program launches Summer 2026, followed by early elementary grades in development. Our long-term vision is to build a complete, research-based, story-rich curriculum for the early and middle years of homeschooling—continuing through at least 5th or 6th grade. We believe those foundational years shape how children see themselves as learners, and we want to help you make those years simple, meaningful, and filled with wonder.
